Just as in the 2007 NBA Sim Tournament, the 2008 Tournament involves the 30 NBA franchises fielding their best rosters from all time. Now, just like last year, I thought it would be more interesting if each team was completely different. Sure, Wilt Chamberlain played extremely well for the Warriors, 76ers and Lakers organizations, but I wanted him on only one All-Time squad. The rule created to select which team a Legend ended up on was whichever had him during his statistically best season (determined by PANDEX). In this example, Wilt's 1963 Warrior PANDEX of 46.38 beats out both his 1967 76er and 1969 Laker values (42.58 and 35.43, respectively).
Another wrinkle I added for the 2008 NBA Sim Tournament was that only a certain number of positions could be filled by a team. For the 2007 Tournament I just found the 5 best players from each team's roster and forced them into a starting line-up. This process seemed to work okay most of the time but there were enough examples that this was madness (Wes Unseld was the starting shooting guard for the Washington Wizards) that I devised a better system.
For the 2008 Tournament each team had to fill out the following positions:
2 Centers, 4 Forwards, 4 Guards and 2 Utilities (or wildcards if you want a better term).
To illustrate the whole process of roster selection I present to you the 2008 Los Angeles Clippers. Damn did it take me a long time to finally fill out that twelfth position!
